20 Months and Counting

Apparently, I've either gone too long between updates, or I need to calm down a little with pictures because as I was flipping through my phone to figure out that last ones I uploaded, I was thrown by just how many I, well, had to flip through.

The last couple of weeks have been pretty good. Adam's got to spend time with all of his grandparents and I know he's loved every bit of it.

We're not sure yet what he's going to be for Halloween. We did buy him some red, black, and white, striped socks to match his monkey hoody so he can possibly be a sock monkey though.

He's getting a bit fussy right now, so I better go, but just know he's doing great. Just loving life and being too stubborn to talk.

The Babe in the Box, and other stories

Hey All,

Right now, I come to you from my bed, on which sleeps a very adorable and tuckered out toddler. I was doing the laundry and when I pulled the sheets out of the dryer, he felt them and just splayed out under some of them on the floor as I put the fitted sheet on. Normally he helps me put things in the washer or transfer them to the dryer, so I guess this is one of the first times he's felt that perfection that is straight-from-the-dryer anything.

Anyway, this week's been good, though not too different from the weeks before it. I did have to go the first halfish without a phone, so once I got my replacement I went a little crazy with pictures, since I was without for a bit (yes, I do have a regular camera, but I rarely think to grab it...and I don't carry it on me, generally speaking.)

He did make friends with a box though, and not a full one at that. I was cutting up an old diaper box to make a wreath and he fell in love with its remnants. Almost the whole side of it is gone, so he just sits in it and smiles....or stands in it while he eats his snack. I think there might be a few pictures of that below. I thought I'd try making a fort with several other boxes we have, but nope, that's the only one he wants. If you stack them, he'll smile, crawl under it like he's being sneaky, and then knock it all down.

Finally, I'm tempted to tell you now what he probably would like for Christmas...for all of you early-on-top-of-things people, but I think what's more important right now is that we all do what we can to help those suffering from the shutdown right now. Adam is lucky. He has a ton of loving friends and family who can afford to give him what he needs, but there are a ton of kids and expectant mothers (and plenty of others) out there who depend on programs like WIC (that are running out quickly), so if you can, donate to your local food bank, shelter, church, blood bank, Feeding America (which is online, easy, and every $1 is 8 meals for the hungry out there), or treat someone you know to something they need. Hopefully this whole idiotic thing will pass over quickly (though even when it does, you shouldn't forget to help where you can), but until then, just breath and try not to get pissed off at everyone else. Put that frustration to use. Anger and hate help no one, least of all ourselves.

Okay, I'm done with that little soapbox. Here're those pictures I was talking about.

19 Months Already!

Hey Everyone,
I hope this finds all of you well. As I type, Adam has finally passed out for his nap (or did about 30 minutes ago before I got distracted by the internet). He's getting to that age where he'll pitch an absolute fit when you try to get him to nap if you don't catch him at the exact perfect time. I know a lot of you don't believe he has it in him, but I assure you, he does.

The last week or two have been pretty nice, though Thomas has had a lot on his plate with school starting back up again and work. Adam always runs up to him and gives him a big hug when he gets home each night.

I finished the mural in Adam's room, which you can read about here if you haven't, and he loves it. He enjoys tottering over to it and pointing out the different characters and things he can reach. Sometimes I pick him up so he can get a better look at the rest of it.

He's definitely getting more independent these days. As of two days ago, he refuses to take your hand to enter or exit the front door, determined to do it on his own each time. He also likes to play chase in the front yard....or in other words, he likes to run around the yard and make me chase after him when he goes in the neighbors' yards or too close to the street. Luckily, he enjoys flopping down in the grass and playing with the leaves after a little bit, so that's nice.

Of course, he hasn't lost his giving nature. He spends as much time as you'll let it putting around the house with these little cars his Abuelita/Great-grandma gave him, complete with his little toddler version of "vroom vroom." To him though, this isn't completely a solitary thing. He insists that you take one of the cars and vroom it around some, no matter whether you're cooking dinner, showering, or on the commode.

Well, I know y'all are waiting for pictures, so here you go. Again, if you follow me on Instagram, there won't be a whole lot that are new.

Oh yeah

Hey Guys,
So, I realized last weekend, when asked about Adam's doctor visit nearly two weeks ago, that I hadn't updated everyone here on things (I've had this screen open all week to remind me to do it). So, here we go.

Adam's doctor visit last Tuesday went just about like most visits do. They weighed him (just over 25 pounds), measured him (just over 32 inches), monitored him, talked to me, and gave him shots (he's older now, so that's worse...his pain receptors don't fade away/die/whatever as quickly so he remembers and is angry about it for longer periods of time...also, he realizes there's a bandaid on his leg and just hands it to me because what are bandaids?) Oh, his head's also still on track at slightly larger than average.

Normally, from there, I'd be asked to return once he's 2, but because he's not saying anything really, they want to see him in another 3 months to make sure that's just because he loves his pacifier way too much. We've been instructed to have him leave it in bed and maybe only have it at naps, bedtime, or if he wants it in the car. So far it seems to be working. He's a lot more verbal now...which is to say, he's not as much saying more words, but more trying to feel out all of the different sounds (and all of the different volumes for sure).(Oh and he's always babbled...if that was a question...I guess I should have just said he's babbling more.)

Now, no worries though guys, his comprehension is great, it's just a precaution.

As for everything else, we've now converted his bed into a toddler bed, so he can get in and out on his own. It hasn't really made him want to sleep there more (he's still pretty addicted to coming into our bed after a few hours), but hopefully that'll change over time. Now that he's dropping some of his naps, he sleeps more solidly when he does, so I'm assuming he'll eventually stop waking up as easily from random sounds or the lack there of.
Cheers.

He'll be 18 months before we know it

Hey All,

So, maybe this isn't a weekly blog anymore...who knows. We'll see if I can get back in the habit. I hope the end of the summer has treated you all well and that everyone headed back to school isn't too upset to be doing so.

Adam and I have been doing our best to soak up the sun whenever we can. He loves getting out and playing in his sandbox, jabbing our front porch with sticks of sidewalk chalk, running and rolling around in the grass, and sitting pretty in his trike stroller each day as we take short little walks throughout the neighborhood. Of course, it's been pretty hot, so we don't go out for too long at once. With all of the latest rain though, things have cooled down a tad bit and I seriously hope it stays a little less....stifling, so we can stay out longer.

He continues to be the most helpful little baby, throwing away trash and trying to help with the laundry. He's also learning to seriously love his baths and to stand on his little stool and try to brush his teeth. Oh, and he's used his new potty a few times, but I doubt that'll come fully for a good while now. He doesn't quite use his words yet, but pretty good at listening and knowing what we're saying.

And We're Back! And in our Own Home!

Hey Everyone,

I'm so sorry it's been so long since I posted. I hope you'll forgive me though when I say we've been working on buying our very first house and then subsequently moving into said house! I originally wanted it to be a surprise, so I stopped updating when all I had were pictures of Adam in the house as we painted.....but then the underwriters took longer and longer and though most of you knew, I didn't want to post anything just in case I'd jinx it or something (silly I know).

So here I am now saying, we officially have a house (as of a little over a week ago)! It's a cute little three bedroom out in Moncks Corner, so it's just right for us (enough space for all our books, movies, and Adam, with the unhindered sky and quiet of being right out side of the town). I'm not going to give our address here, for obvious reasons, but if any of you would like it, just let me know (if you want, I can even send you one of these cute little "We've Moved!" postcards with a picture of the house that Sherry gave us). (Side note, if you need to sell or buy in the Lowcountry, see my Step-Mom Sherry Crosby :)!)

As for news on Adam, he's doing fantastically. He's walking even better than before and shows us just how curious he is each day by not only getting into EVERYTHING, but also mimicking us (I've had a cold all week and he keeps blowing into tissues like me and pretending to sneeze so we'll tell him "bless you.")

There're plenty of pictures down below of the last two or so months, but nothing really showing the house since it's still in a bit of disarray, though it's definitely coming along.

If you want to read some more articulate and introspective words on the new house, click here.
Oh and if you want to follow my Instagram (I'll still upload those pics, of Adam, here), click here.

Thanks to Melanie...

...we have enough pictures for a post :)

This week our little guy has become quite a bit more skilled at getting into mischief, which I guess comes with the whole walking territory. He's constantly climbing up things or reaching up to grab stuff off of tables he couldn't get to before. While writing this post alone, I don't know how many times I've had to run and stop him from doing something.

So, I can only really get a second to take pictures of him when he's napping. His favorite new thing is to sleep on daddy's pillow.

Have I mentioned he loves electronics?

He picked out his own hula hoop for the wedding. It's currently residing in his pack'n'play.

Mrs. Roys offered up the rest of her frosty so Mel could introduce him to the tastiness. He couldn't get enough of it.
No worries guys: Mel was finished with the coffee before he got a hold of it. He has however figured straws out and especially loves them when an Orange Julius is on the other end.
With Uncle Alex. The corruption starts. :)

He Started Walking (A Month Ago, Whoops)!

Hey guys,

So, it's apparently been exactly a month since I updated y'all on our little man. So sorry. Life got a little crazy (in a good way) when friends (though let's be serious, family) was in for a few weeks in order to celebrate the wedding of the awesome new Pearsons (my beautiful best friend Melanie and Thomas' best friend, Chris).

This will actually a be a pretty short post, word wise, though I do have one very special surprise, for those of you who haven't seen Adam walk. This was from the first night he really took a few steps and has since been learning to be a little more courageous in walking a few steps here and there on his own or actually standing up on his own from the floor without pulling up on anything.

Trying Adam in the suit Mel and Chris sent him for his birthday. Twas a tad bit too large.

Growing Up So Fast

Hey guys,

I'm trying out posting earlier rather than later (I always think I'll post Friday if nothing else, and then the weekend gets crazy). All is well, though Adam seems to think it's an awesome idea to wake up when it's time for bed and then stay up until 1 am. He's sleeping off that decision as we speak, hopefully through a looooong morning nap. He actually looks like he's sleeping of a hardcore fight though, because a mosquito snuck in the house last night and bit him a few times under his eyes. Poor kid. But he'll be fine. He hasn't even been scratching them.

His Uncle Chaise and Jenny came down and we got to go out to the Angel Oak again, which is always beautiful, and to the Hunley, though I don't think Adam understood just how cool that was....to him it was pretty much a brown thing in a big bathtub, I'm sure.

Whoops, well that's him waking up. I'd better go. Until next time, stay safe and know you're loved!

If the videos keep messing up, up there, here they are again.

14 Months

Hey look guys! It's a video! If you're wondering where he is, well, more on that hopefully in a week or two.

For now though, all is pretty good, even if he's been incredibly fussy for the last week or so (he's getting better though). The doctor says he either had a stomach bug (no vomiting; don't worry) or it's just his teething (molars are jerks and he's getting several of them in at once). He is standing on his own sometimes though....if he doesn't realize it; once he does, he falls down or leans on something immediately. He's also turning into a TV wiz apparently, because a few days ago he grabbed the remote, turned the TV on, grabbed the playstation controller, turned it on, handed the controller to me, and when I asked him what he wanted to watch, he replied doggy....which I took to be Blues Clues. Then he promptly stole a piece of my toast from my plate and watched one episode before trying to turn things off. Hopefully that's a reflection on his intelligence and not our TV watching habits. :)

Mommy gave him a homemade Strawberry popsicle. He approved
\
This is my face whenever he's near and I want to use my phone.
Oh, and he's not just peering over; he's laying straight on my face.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Pick-Up Trucks, The Lorax, and Just Being a Toddler

Hey guys,

Not too much to update you on this week. He's darn close to walking, but he just won't let go of the furniture/us/railings. He is though, eating what we eat, for the most part and cut up better; turning on and off light switches; and following around the dog wherever I'll let him (he can climb the stairs if I'm backing him up, but that's normally where I draw the line.)

This last weekend Thomas and I drove over to Atlanta to pick up a truck from Aunt Dolly and Uncle Curtiss (Thanks again!). Adam loves it....what little time he's been in it anyway, since there's no car seat.

He's also found a great love of the movie The Lorax. It's the only thing that'll completely take his attention when I need to do a little bit of housework.

Well, that's it for me tonight! I've had a request for more videos, so I'll try to get some more in next time. Until then, stay safe, have fun, and know you're loved!

Busy Busy March

Hey Everyone,

Sorry about last week; Adam was sick again, so I was a bit sidetracked taking care of him. We never really got a definitive answer on what it was, whether it was croup or just a regular viral respiratory infection, but what was definitive was that he absolutely hated his treatment. For the first few days he had to use a nebulizer ever 4-6 hours and then whenever he needed it after that. No worries though, he seems to be all better now.

Here's the last few weeks in photos!

13 Months!

Hey Everyone,

Tonight is going to be mostly a picture post, but just so you know, all is well. No real huge breakthroughs this week, but plenty of sweet, adorable, and of course frustrating moments.

12-Month Check-up

Hey guys,

We finally scheduled and made it to Adam's 12-month check-up. Everything seems good. He's in the 70th percentile pretty much across the board and at 30 inches long, he only has two more inches before Mom and Dad have to go find him the next car seat up. The poor thing did have to get stuck four times though: three vaccines and one iron test (which turned out fine).

Other than all of that, he's doing well. We're weaning him back to his bed after allowing him to sleep with us while he was sick....which is less than fun. Also, he's been switched mainly over to whole milk. I debated for a while over whether or not to try and stand by feeding him some alternative, like almond milk, but, as the doctor confirmed, for the time being, whole milk has a lot that he needs that the others just don't have, particularly the fats for his brain development. Oh well, it'll be cheaper than formula either way and as long as he's healthy and it's the right  thing for him, why should I be upset?

Let's see...last but not least, he is trying to stand some more and seems somewhat more aware as he plays. He's even starting to enjoy pushing his little cars all over the living room.

Sorry, no pictures tonight, but you can rest assured that he's as cute as ever and would give you the goofiest, sweetest smile right now if he could.

Love you guys,
Cheers!

You Only Turn One Once: Part 2

The best laid plans man, the best laid plans. I was all set up to upload these pictures and have them all posted for you last Thursday, but come Wednesday, the whole family came under a sick spell. First it was Adam, then the rest of the house followed suit and are still fighting the thing off. Luckily, when we took him to the doctor (The MUSC Pediatrics After Hours Care in North Charleston is great by the way), our doc assured us that it seemed to just be a viral upper respiratory tract infection and shouldn't need any antibiotics. Of course, he also assured us we probably had another week until the thing was completely done...so we'll all be getting over it for another good while.

As far as the birthday party, many huge THANK YOUs to everyone who helped get everything ready and everyone who was able to come out and be there to celebrate with us. Sure, he won't remember it, but Thomas and I always will, and with his guestbook, his cards, his gifts, and the pictures, that's a ton of residual love he's going to feel throughout his life. He's a lucky kid to have all of y'all. Oh, and if you couldn't come, we love you too and know you were there in spirit.

I'm still a bit under the weather, so I'll be just a few more sentences, but, as you can see, the theme was Dr. Seuss. We made themed foods, decorations, and he had two great cakes made by his Meme. The cake he had I made, and you can read more about it here if you're into vegan desserts (we're not vegan, for the most part anyway, but I didn't want to risk him having a reaction to something at his party/on his birthday). He loved his gifts, all of the attention, and really just being mobil enough to crawl around and see everyone.

If you want to know more, shoot me a comment, I'm just pooped right now, but I'll get it next time. Also, if you want me to print out a message from you to stick into the guestbook if you couldn't come, let me know down there too. (Oh and I'll try to pool some more pics together before next time too.)

Cheers everyone and Much Love!

You Only Turn One Once

Last week, update night landed right on Adam's very first birthday, so here I am just a little behind (Tonight, his actual birthday; Thursday his party)

On Thursday, I did my best to make sure he had a pretty happy day (even if he didn't understand why). I sang him Happy Birthday several times, which he loved, and did what I could to play with him, though I had a ton to get done for dinner, his cupcakes/cake, and just everything else.

Thomas had work that night, so once he got home and ate his dinner, we all gathered around and sang Happy Birthday to Adam, with one solitary, but festive, candle lit on his cupcake (I figured I should wait until his party to give him the larger one). Then I blew the flame out (I mean, what did you expect) and handed him his first ever cupcake. He's never been a messy baby, if he could help it, so he just kind of methodically ate what he could and then threw the rest on the floor....which was promptly devoured by the dog.

We wanted to wait to give him most of the gifts until his birthday, but we couldn't not let him have at least one on his actual day, so we went ahead and gave him the activity box thing from us. He also got two books from our neighbor, so he was pretty happy.

There wasn't much left to the night, so we just let him play until he was tuckered out and fell asleep on me. Overall, I think it turned out pretty nicely for him; something low-key to practice before he was the center of attention for a much larger crowd on Saturday.

Well, I know you're waiting for pictures, so here you go!

Oh, and by the way, he's a lot more aware even since then. He's clapping his hands and stomping his feet during If You're Happy and You Know It, following simple commands, and just exploring all that he can throughout the house. It's like he turned one and bam! Pretty soon and he'll be walking and running around.

Just One More Week!

Yep, in just one week, little Addy is going to be a crazy one-year-old. Everything is going really well. He's not walking yet, but he's definitely getting ready to try. He'll do the daring let-go-of-his-support-and-try-to-stand thing, but he can only stay put for about a second right now. I'm sure it won't be long until that changes though. He's scooting right along in his walker and is ready to get out and explore everything (and I mean EVERYTHING).

I'm sorry for not posting last week by the way; I'm hoping to start posting twice a week for a month this or next week.

Sorry to cut this short, but it is Valentines after all. I hope all of y'all are doing well and I'll be back soon!

We're Almost to February Again!

We're getting closer to the one year mark! So crazy! There's nothing really new this week (though there is a pretty awesome video of little man scooting around in his walker from last week that Thomas is still holding captive on his phone; we'll rescue it soon hopefully).

11 months

Hey Everyone,

Shockingly, I didn't get any new pictures of Addy  this week, but you're in luck, because I have just a few from Mel, who answered my query from last week for pictures you might have hidden away and want to share.

I love these. Thanks Mel! :)

Other than that, the kids doing well. He's been chowing down on some sliced and steamed sweet potatoes and some fresh spinach applesauce and just loving life.

Sorry for the short post, but I'm super tired and ready to hit the hay. I hope this finds everyone well.

Night!

Friday, January 18, 2013

By the way, if anyone had issues looking at the picture story on the last post, Mel pointed out to me that it wasn't working, so now it's set to public and should be good. Just writing this for people following the blog in a blogroll or something like that, so you'll get this update automatically.

Belated Happy Holidays

Hey everyone,

I hope you're not too angry with me for staying quiet for so long. The holidays were just so jammed pack that there was just no time to update this thing (and then I needed a week to recoup and get back into the swing of things around the house after being at my grandmothers and out and about so much).

To make it up to y'all (and to my 99 in 999 list), I'm debating over having two updates a week for a month or having a week where I blog every weekday of that week. I haven't decided which one I want to do, but I guess we'll all find out soon, won't we?

We had a fantastic first Christmas for Adam. He did get a ton of cool gifts, but most importantly, he got to be surrounded by so many loving family members and friends day in and day out. He's truly a blessed little guy to have so many people in his life that care about him. Thank you all.  We're very thankful for all that you all do.

As far as pictures, I have way too many to post here in one blog, so here's a new thing I'm playing around with. I hope it works!

(P.S., if you have some pictures I didn't get, please let me know! I'm sorry if I missed out on some people. I'm only just getting used to having a camera on me again and so I forgot it several places. If you have anything you wanted added, just comment or email them straight to me and I'll make sure they get on there.)

Cheers!
